Air and Ground Transportation

Air Travel

Washington, D.C. is accessible by three major airports. Transportation options, approximate travel times, and approximate fares to and from the airports are listed. Fares are subject to change. 

Airfare and other travel arrangements are the full responsibility of Neuroscience 2023 attendees.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

Reagan National Airport is served by 15 commercial airlines and is located 5 miles from downtown Washington, D.C., and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. 

  • Time/Distance: Approximate 20-minute drive to downtown Washington, D.C.
  • Taxis: Follow the signs in each terminal for taxi pickup locations. Fares are based on traffic conditions, but an average fare to the convention center is $17-$21.
  • Metro: The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Metrorail system provides service throughout the Washington, D.C., area. For assistance in locating the Metro stop closest to your desired location, visit Metro's Trip Planner at www.wmata.com.

Washington Dulles International Airport

Dulles International Airport is served by 33 commercial airlines and is located 27 miles from downtown Washington, D.C. and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. 

  • Time/Distance: Approximate 45-minute drive to downtown Washington, D.C.
  • Taxis: Taxis are available at the lower level at each terminal. Fares are based on traffic conditions, but an average fare to the convention center is $75-$80.
  • Metro: The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Metrorail provides service throughout the Washington, D.C., area. The Metrorail Silver Line stops at Dulles International Airport. For additional information on the Metrorail Silver Line, visit www.wmata.com.

Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

BWI is served by 12 commercial airlines and is located 32 miles from downtown Washington, D.C. and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. 

  • Time/Distance: Approximate 45-minute drive to downtown Washington, D.C.
  • Taxis: Taxis are available just outside the baggage claim area of the Lower Level of the BWI Marshall Airport terminal near doors 5 and 13. Fares are based on traffic conditions, but an average fare to the convention center is $75-$85.
  • Public Transportation: MARC and Amtrak offer daily train service to downtown Washington D.C. For additional information, visit www.mta.maryland.gov or www.amtrak.com.

Ground Transportation

  • Metro

    The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Metrorail system is available in the downtown Washington, D.C. area and has a stop located outside the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Fees vary depending on distance traveled. For assistance in locating the Metro stop closest to your desired location, visit Metro's Trip Planner at www.wmata.com.

  • The Circulator

    The Circulator is a public transit system designed to take riders to the city’s cultural, shopping, dining, and business destinations including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. There are two routes near the convention center as well as one that travels around the National Mall. At just $1 and with buses arriving every 10 minutes, the Circulator provides daily bus service throughout Washington, D.C.

  • Taxis

    There are several companies that provide taxicab service in Washington, D.C. Taxicabs are easily accessible at the convention center, major hotels, and other downtown locations and attractions.

  • Shuttle Schedule

    SfN provides complimentary shuttle services between the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and most of the official SfN meeting hotels. Shuttle stops and schedule will be available later this year.

  • Parking

    Parking is not available at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. However, there are parking spaces near the convention center, available on a first-come, first served basis. Exhibitors and attendees are strongly encouraged to use the public parking facilities. Ticketing is heavily enforced in the convention center's surrounding residential area.

    Twelve metered public parking spaces, designated for vehicles displaying disability permits or tags, are located on 9th Street.

    Locations:   

    • Three spaces on the east side of 9th Street, between Mt. Vernon Place & L Street
    • Three spaces on the east side of 9th Street, between L & M Street
    • Three spaces on the east side of 9th Street, between M & N Street
    • Three metered, public parking spaces on 7th Street, between Mt. Vernon Place and L Street.

    Parking signs are posted, indicating a two-hour parking limit, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.
